In as little as 19 months, students can earn their Associate of Occupational Studies degree in Medical Assistant. Along with the General Education requirements for degree status, AOS-Medical Assistant students learn the skills they need for a medical career, giving them an opportunity to work in general or specialty practices, outpatient clinics, hospitals or medical laboratories. Students receive hands-on training in medical laboratory tests and procedures including blood withdrawals, injections, assistance during minor surgeries, examinations, vital signs, and sterilization of instruments as well as general preparation of patients, exam rooms, and supplies. AOS-Medical Assistant students are also trained in administrative office procedures, computers, medical terminology, medical law and ethics, human anatomy, patient psychology and pharmacology.

Graduates of the AOS-Medical Assistant program receive a degree, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate, Electrocardiogram (EKG) Certificate and an
Injection Certificate. AOS-Medical Assistant graduates qualify to sit for the RMA or CMA examinations sponsored by the American Medical Technologists or the AAMA.
