Porter and Chester Institute trains students to the level that will make them competent employees in technical, business, and health-related occupations. Students at the Institute will find the same instruments, equipment, and reference materials available in the workplace. In other words, students receive real-world experience and are prepared to enter today’s competitive workplace.

Porter and Chester Institute provides the following programs:

Computer and Network Technology
Computer Aided Drafting Design
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
Automotive Technology

Medical Assisting


Computer and Network Technology
Install and troubleshoot computers, computer networks, and internetworking components. Upgrade and repair computers and peripherals. Build and maintain networks. Learn the principles and practices of designing, building, and maintaining networks capable of supporting national and global organizations. Develop customer service skills and provide support in a Mac environment, as well as for MS Office and Lotus Notes.

Two occupational preparation programs are available: Career Computer and Network Technology and Computer and Network Technology. Both programs include certification for CompTIA A+ and Network+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), and Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA).

The daytime Career Computer and Network Technology classes meet Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 12:40 PM. The program consists of 1500 hours of instruction and requires fifteen months to complete.

The evening Computer and Network Technology classes meet Monday through Wednesday from 6:05 PM to 10:40 PM. The program consists of 960 hours of instruction and requires eighteen months to complete


Computer Aided Drafting Design
You have four different programs to choose from. Specialize in either the Architectural & Civil or the Mechanical & Electronic field. The emphasis is on AutoCad. There is far more depth than is offered in the generalized courses offered at most schools. This qualifies you for the jobs that pay the most and offer the most advancement.

Both the Architectural & Civil and the Mechanical & Electronic Computer Aided Drafting and Design programs meet Monday through Friday from 7:30AM to 12:40PM. The program consists of 1200 hours of instruction and requires twelve months for completion.

The evening Architectural & Civil and Mechanical & Electronic computer Aided Drafting programs meet Monday through Wednesday from 6:05PM to 10:40PM. The programs consist of 960 hours of instruction and require eighteen months to complete.


Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
Install, trouble-shoot, and repair both residential and commercial heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Become confident in the use of modern diagnostic equipment. Gain experience on the equipment actually used on the job. Acquire the kinds of skills that employers pay top dollar for.

Porter and Chester's program is approved for credit in the State of Connecticut apprenticeship program. Preparation for S-2, D-2 and B-2 licenses.

Automotive Technology
Diagnose and repair computerized fuel injection systems. Learn engine performance. Tear down transaxles. Service anti-lock braking systems. Learn on real cars with real problems.

This program intensively covers automobile service and repair. The graduate will have sufficient knowledge and skill for employment beyond the entry level as a specialized or general automobile technician in a new or used car dealership or independent garage.

In addition, the graduate should be able to pass the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) tests and become certified when the ASE job experience requirements are met.

The Automotive Technology program meets Monday through Friday from 7:30AM to 12:40PM. The program consists of 1200 hours of instruction and requires twelve months to complete.

The evening Automotive Technology program meets Monday through Thursday from 6:05PM through 10:35PM. The program consists of 1200 hours of instruction and requires eighteen months to complete.

Classes begin in January, April, July, and October


Medical Assisting
Take blood pressures. Perform EKG's and medical lab procedures. Assist physicians. Schedule and prep patients. Manage the medical office.

Our curriculum consists of clinical and administrative projects taken from actual medical office environments. Preparation for the CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) and RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) Certifications.

The Medical Assisting curriculum is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills required for competent performance in today's medical offices, hospitals, and other allied health environments.

The daytime Medical Assisting classes meet Monday through Thursday from 8:30AM to 2:30PM. The program consists of 900 hours of instruction, plus 180 hours of externship, and requires nine months to complete.

The evening Medical Assisting classes meet Monday through Thursday from 6:00PM to 9:45PM. The program consists of 900 hours of instruction, plus 180 hours of externship, and requires thirteen and a half months to complete.
