Degree Programs with Hands-On Career Training
With a core of general education courses alongside specialized career
training, SJVC enables graduates to receive their Associate of Science
degree in addition to career specific certifications and licensure
preparedness. Students get the classroom instruction and real-world
experience they need to compete in today's job market.
Flexible, Accelerated Learning
SJVC courses are offered year-round, with flexible hours in morning,
afternoon and evening classes to accommodate working students. Most
courses of study can be completed in only 15 to 18 months.
Accreditation
SJVC is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for community and
junior colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges
(WASC). There are more than 2,000 licensed private vocational colleges
in California, and SJVC is one of the eight accredited by WASC.
Clinical and Administrative Medical Assisting - Associate's
This program trains you in the practical applications of both administrative
and clinical medical procedures for medical offices and medical
specialty clinics. You'll learn billing and coding, bookkeeping,
venipuncture, CPR, First Aid and participate in an extensive externship.
SJVC’s Clinical and Administrative Medical Assisting program is
accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools
(ABHES). Graduates are eligible to sit for the Registered Medical
Assistant exam (RMA).
Dental Assisting - Associate's
This program trains you in all aspects of working with a dentist,
including patient care, office and laboratory duties. Our balance
of hands-on experience with classroom instruction covers all aspects
of dental assisting skills and related theory. Whether you use your
dental assisting training for a career chairside or in an administrative
capacity, you are well prepared at the program’s completion.
Graduates are also eligible to take the State of California Board
of Dental Examiners Examination for State Licensure as a Registered
Dental Assistant (RDA). SJVC's Dental Assisting program is accredited
by the State Board of Dental Examiners, Committee on Dental Auxiliaries,
California Department of Consumer Affairs.
Pharmacy Technology - Associate's
This program prepares you to work under the direct supervision of
a Registered Pharmacist as part of a team responsible for carrying
out a doctor’s pharmaceutical orders. Pharmacy Technicians assist
in the various activities of compounding, distributing and dispensing
of medications. Training includes equal involvement in classroom
and lab instruction, as well as an externship component.
Graduates are qualified for licensure with the State of California
as a registered Pharmacy Technician (PhT). Graduates are also eligible
to take the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s examination
to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
Respiratory Therapy - Associate's
This program prepares you to be a member of an elite health care
team that evaluates, treats and manages patients with respiratory
illnesses and other cardiopulmonary disorders. In addition to performing
respiratory care procedures, respiratory therapists are involved
in clinical decision-making and patient education. Students receive
over 800 hours of extensive clinical practice in hospitals and clinics.
Graduates are eligible for state licensure and national credentialing
examinations, including Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) and
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). SJVC's Respiratory Therapy
program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied
Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in cooperation with the Commission
on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (COARC).
Surgical Technology - Associate's
Our Surgical Technology program prepares you to be an integral part
of a medical team whose responsibility is to exercise precise and
harmonious procedures and practices in an operating room environment.
Surgical technologists work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists,
registered nurses and other surgical personnel to deliver the highest
level of patient care. Instruction includes an extensive clinical
rotation.
Graduates are eligible to take the National Certification exam
for Surgical Technologists. The Surgical Technology program is accredited
by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs
(CAAHEP).
Health Care Insurance Specialist - Associate's
SJVC’s Health Care Insurance Specialist program prepares you to
process health claims, provide insurance coding, keep patient records
and manage a medical office, using a variety of health care insurance
principles and computer applications. Training includes specialized
courses in the international classification of diseases, current
procedural terminology and legal issues in health insurance.
An externship program allows students to participate in real-world
work experience. Graduates are eligible to take the Certified Insurance
Coder exam given by the American Academy of Procedural Coders.
Emergency Services and Safety Management - Associate's
Our Emergency Services and Safety Management (ESSM) program opens
doors into a world of security systems for the protection of individuals,
businesses and organizations as well as properties. Training includes
guidelines for Cal/OSHA compliance, techniques to identify and control
assault behavior in the workplace, risk management, security, loss
prevention and public safety management in a variety of settings.
Graduates earn certification in EMT-1 along with Healthcare Security
and Safety Basic, Advanced and Supervisor, First Aid, CPR and PC
832 Arrest Methods/Firearms, Side-handle Baton (BSIS), Firearms
(BSIS), Aerosol Tear Gas (DOJ) and FEMA Incident Command System
Basic.
